1996
was the year that the weather in Glencoe had an even bigger effect on
the event than usual! (and that's saying something.) High winds forced
the cancellation of the canoe section for obvious safety reasons. No
doubt due to this setback, the monies raised for the charities not only
didn't beat the previous years total, but actually dropped back, with
£18,000
being shared between them.
Iain Peace was the first of the
men home whilst Maggie Creber led the women home to retain her
title. Another title was retained with Jimmy Smith surpassing
his effort of the previous year by bringing in an amazing total of £4622
in sponsorship!
