70 Wild Miles is a triathlon consisting of a 47 mile cycle, 10 mile canoe and a 13 mile run. It is not a race as such, the real purpose being to assist in the fight against Cancer. So, if you’re the kind of enthusiast to whom the thought of cycling the 47 miles (75km.), canoeing a loch for the next 10 miles (16km.), and finishing with a 13 mile (22km.) run sounds like a fun day out - then this might just be what you are looking for! The added bonus is that it’s all for a good cause and there’s great scenery too - if the weather and your state of fitness let you admire it. You don't have to compete in the event, We're always looking for more VOLUNTEERS to help with the organising and running of the event. Or if you wish to make a donation through sponsorship or direct to the charity we will welcome that as well. The 70 Wild Miles event has supported a number of charities through its history. Including; Cancer Research, Cystic Fibrosis Research and CLIC Sargent. This year, 2009, we are extremely proud to be supporting two great charities; CLIC Sargent and Tenovus. |

John Barton Watson Returns to Glencoe after 13-year break! In 1995 John Watson won the solo male race after being at the top in fundraising for the previous three years. Part of his plan to raise money saw him giving talks and advice to interested people in his local town hall in North Yorkshire. With his enthusiasm and commitment, John raised thousands of pounds in the four years he completed the event. We are delighted to announce that he will be taking part once again in Glencoe, at the tender young age of 63! Committed as ever, John has spent much of his time since his last visit to Glencoe, becoming a successful writer and poet, giving regular talks and recitals. He has never forgotten Glencoe or 70 Wild Miles and provides a steady stream of donations from his talks to CLIC Sargent. So 2009 will see John putting his pen and paper to one side, while he trains once again to take part in the solo event in Glencoe, watch out all you youngsters, we have a very strong feeling that Mr Watson, will still be a force to be reckoned with! Those competitors and helpers who were around in years John took part, will remember this huge character and all who are instrumental in putting this event together in 2009, wish him all the very best in his efforts this year….Good Luck John!! What we really need now, to complete this trip down memory lane, is to have some other characters throw their hats into the ring! i.e. Jimmy Smith, Kenny Short, Duncan MacDonald, John Nicol, Hamish Irvine, Bert Hutchinson, Bob Sharp, Bob Simpson, Davie Brown…. and many, many more! Where are all you guys?
