The Arthritis Research Campaign

The Arthritis Research Campaign (arc) have a vested interest in athletes as they present later in life with painful knees and hips which quite often need replacing. If you know anyone who has had a hip/knee/other joint replaced you will know of their work if not their name. Athletes can download free information on protecting their joints, exercising safely etc and at the same time hopefully decide to support them?

For the really keen (and mad fit) among you, these links might give you even more ideas - and a lot more related links!

Scottish Sport

This is a really nice site dedicated to all sport in Scotland.

This is a UK adventure racing website and one of the busiest in the world (I've been assured by the webmaster). They've put us into their diary list on their Scottish regional site.

Extreme Sports.com.

If 70 Wild Miles doesn't finish you off completely then this link might give you some more ideas.

The Sports Injury Clinic  is a site that obviously we hope thar you never have to use but it's also a site that is well worth visiting just to pick up advice that may help you not to need their services.

Peak Performance is a newsletter for serious athletes. These nice people contacted us offering a FREE copy of their newsletter to be delivered to your door for you to study at your leisure. Obviously they are hoping that you will be impressed enough to subscribe, well I'm impressed (even though it's far too serious for a lazy slob like me!). Visit their site, check out their sample issue there and send away if it appeals to you.

SPORTident

SPORTident equipment is used worldwide to identify, time and score competitors in many different types of event. The competitor carries a small electronic SI-Card. This is dipped into electronic stations, which are located at each checkpoint. At task based events the SI-Card may be used to record successful completion of a task. The SI-Card stores a list of the locations and the times they were visited.

At the end of a set of activities, the contents of the SI-Card are downloaded into a computer. Each competitor is immediately given a printout thay provides a summary of their performance. Full results may be displayed at the event and uploaded onto a website.

The number of applications for SPORTident are limited only by the imagination. It has been used at events with more than 15,000 competitors!
